About Catherine...
Catherine Victoria Kimmance is an experienced singing teacher, vocal practitioner and professional performer, with a career spanning performance, vocal pedagogy and music education.
Originally trained as a ‘triple threat’ performer, Catherine enjoyed an international career as a lead singer, actress and dancer before moving into higher education, vocal pedagogy and specialist teaching. She currently works as a Sing Artist with Royal Ballet & Opera, alongside her roles as Head of Singing & Voice at Liverpool Theatre School, Visiting Lecturer and Professional at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, and Musicianship and Vocal Development Tutor with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company.
Catherine works extensively one-to-one with young singers and aspiring performers, helping them develop vocal technique, confidence, musicality and performance skills. She particularly enjoys supporting young adults preparing for auditions for conservatoires, drama and stage schools, university courses and professional opportunities within the performing industry.
Her own experience of professional performance, combined with her academic background in music and voice pedagogy, gives her a unique understanding of both the technical and practical demands of being a working performer. Catherine’s teaching is tailored to each individual, whether they are looking to build confidence, develop their singing technique, prepare for an important audition or take their performance to the next level.
She holds a First Class Honours degree in Music from the University of Liverpool, where she was awarded the Evans Memorial Prize for excellence, and an MA in Professional Practice (Voice Pedagogy). Her postgraduate research explored peer learning, music performance anxiety and vocal health in musical theatre students.
Catherine is committed to ongoing professional development and continuing professional development (CPD), regularly engaging with current research, training and professional learning. This includes learning from world-leading experts in voice and singing, ensuring that her teaching and vocal practice remain current, informed and evidence-based.
Catherine is passionate about helping singers develop healthy, confident and sustainable voices, while encouraging them to discover their individuality as performers.
